Spectral-splitting hybrid PV-thermal (PV-T) solar collectors employing semi-transparent solar cells as optical filters

• Semi-transparent solar cells are effective spectral-splitting optical filters. Optical properties of significantly affect the energy allocation. The proposed PVT collector can generate high-temperature (>100 °C) heat. Perovskite cell is great promise in next-generation applications. Detailed performance maps assist designers selecting material. Spectral splitting a promising design methodology that improve hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PV-T) collectors. However, conventional (SSPVT) collectors require additional components, which increases complexity and cost collector. This study proposes SSPVT designs employ semi-transparent photovoltaic (PV) cells, act as both electricity generator well filter. In these designs, part spectrum absorbed by for generation, while rest (especially near-infrared region spectrum) transmitted to an absorber where it generates thermal output. Three types emerging i.e. , cadmium telluride (CdTe), perovskite (PVSCs) polymer (PSCs), selected investigation this context.
